I almost stepped on our two year old this morning.

After an exhausting night of both her and her baby brother taking turns waking up, Cody and I laid collapsed and zonked out on our bed. When suddenly at 6:45am Harvey began whaling again. I jumped out of bed and quickly made a bottle in hopes I would get him before he woke Hannah again.

Well, turns out she had already woken up at some point and we were so exhausted we didn’t hear or take notice. So there she lay, in our doorway, when I opened the door.

But

I didn’t. even. see. her.

Miraculously I stepped right over her.

Or you know what, it was actually probably more that I thought she was simply another pile of clothes on our floor because our bedroom has become a second laundry room for us. That’s probably what it was. And I’m so used to stepping over those piles and dismissing them so that’s what I did with her.

And the funny thing is:

I never would have even known this had happened if Cody hadn’t become alert enough to take notice.

This is life with four little kids. Just surviving guys. But we’re okay over here. Especially since this happened 3 weeks ago now–this is what happens with 4 kids when you start writing and have to pause. You don’t finish what you started for almost a month– And now, we’ve learned to just let her get in the bed with us. Why did it take us this long to figure that out, guys? She sleeps so much better when we do and we sleep too. Which is winning for us.
